Can Andrea

Residential

Can Andrea is a complete renovation of a home in Barcelona’s Raval district.

Andrea was clear that she wanted a pleasant outdoor space and a comfortable two-bedroom home suited to a thirty-something in Barcelona. The starting point was a property that had stood abandoned for more than 20 years, with a gallery that had been enclosed and had deprived the main rooms of light, and with a timber beam structure in poor condition. The first step was to return the gallery to its south-facing outdoor space, reinforce the structure with a system of metal beams, and clear the interior of all the partitions that broke it up into incoherently small rooms.

Project

Year: 2021

Dimensions: 60 m²

Typology: Residential, Renovation

Location: Raval, Barcelona

Photography: Del Rio Bani

A continuous space with fluid circulation and long sightlines.

The new layout creates a circular flow, structured in two horizontal bands, distinguishing the daytime area from the private resting zone. The central element is the kitchen and its intricate joinery, fitted out to respond to different uses: entrance hall, kitchen, living room. The living room is separated from the main bedroom by large sliding doors, allowing this area to be enjoyed as one generous, continuous space. The sliders also conceal a small trick: they reveal the screen used to project films. Finally, the balcony has been fitted with a folding table, fixed to the wall, which lends versatility to the space and once again allows the fluid circulation that defines the home. Andrea wanted to mix Mediterranean materiality with an elegant and sophisticated note, drawn from her years of experience working in Dublin. Our proposal alternates refined elements in walnut wood and pale blue lacquer with brushed brass details, alongside distinctly Mediterranean features such as diagonal terrace tiles, brick, and a rough varnished plaster finish.

Open, continuous day area, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a fitted balcony

Mediterranean materials and high-quality bespoke joinery elements

Brands: Haier Spain, Ceràmica Ferrés, Neve Rubinetterie

Comprehensive renovation project of Can Andrea

Before & After

A new layout that separates the social area from the private rest area.
